The Conneaut, Ohio, community is mourning the peaceful passing of Kristina “Krissy” D. Mucci, a beloved educator, wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother-to-be, and friend whose life was defined by her dedication to children, her love for family, and the extraordinary warmth she showed to everyone she encountered.
Krissy, 57, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2026, at Reserve Care Hospice House in Cleveland, Ohio. She was born on July 8, 1969, in Conneaut to Richard Soltis and Rebecca (Sincowich) Sanford.
Her passing has left a profound sense of loss among family members, former students, colleagues, friends, and members of the wider Conneaut community. Those who knew her are remembering a woman whose influence extended far beyond her professional accomplishments.
A Life Dedicated to Education
Education was at the heart of Krissy’s life. After graduating from Conneaut High School in 1987, she became a first-generation college student and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Education from Kent State University.
She continued her education by obtaining a master’s degree in education from Lake Erie College, along with multiple certificates and endorsements through the Ohio Department of Education.
Throughout her career, Krissy held numerous positions that allowed her to pursue her passion for helping children learn, grow, and succeed.
She began her professional journey with Ashtabula Area City Schools before becoming involved with Conneaut Area City Schools. There, she played an important role in establishing a pilot program at Washington Elementary.
Her career later included work with the Reading First program, classroom teaching, curriculum leadership, and eventually serving as a principal.
She also worked with the Pymatuning Area school system as a literacy coach, served as an adjunct professor for Ashland University, and most recently worked as a literacy coach with the East Central Ohio Educational Service Center.
For Krissy, however, education was never simply a job.
Children were her passion, and she believed every student deserved to be seen, supported, encouraged, and given an opportunity to succeed.
Her loved ones recalled that whenever she noticed a child was missing something they needed, she would often personally make sure that need was met. Her compassion extended beyond the classroom and became one of the defining qualities of her life.
Remembered for Her Warmth and Generosity
Those who knew Krissy often spoke about her unmistakable personality and infectious warmth.
Her smile was described as larger than life, while her welcoming nature made people feel comfortable almost immediately. She had a remarkable ability to meet someone for only a short time and make them feel as though they had known each other for years.
Her influence could be felt not only among students but also among educators, colleagues, friends, and families who encountered her throughout her career.
Krissy also believed strongly in supporting children outside the classroom. During her years with Conneaut Area City Schools, she assisted with coaching swimming, track, and soccer.
Earlier in life, she worked as a lifeguard at the YMCA and as a swimming instructor at her mother’s pool.
Her dedication to children and education became a lasting part of her legacy.
A Love of Adventure and the Outdoors
Away from her professional life, Krissy found happiness in nature, physical activity, and adventure.
She enjoyed hiking, kayaking, cycling, swimming, and spending time along Lake Erie. She also participated in triathlons and took on the challenging Tango Race alongside friends.
Her beloved dogs, Nala and Tucker, were another important part of her life. She enjoyed taking them on walks with her best friend, Stephanie Mischka.
These activities reflected Krissy’s energetic personality and her appreciation for making the most of life with the people and animals she loved.
Family Was at the Center of Her Life
Despite her many professional accomplishments and personal interests, family remained at the center of Krissy’s world.
She particularly cherished Sunday dinners, when family members gathered around an elaborate meal large enough to feed an army. Those gatherings reflected her love of bringing people together and creating memories that would last for years.
Krissy married her husband, Brian, on July 23, 1994. Together they built a family and shared more than three decades of marriage.
She is survived by her daughter, Kira, and son-in-law, Donte’ Jackson, of Ashtabula; her son, Logan, and daughter-in-law, Sarah Mucci, of Conneaut; and her first grandchild, Remi Kristina Marie Mucci, who is due in September.
She is also survived by her mother, Rebecca Sanford of Conneaut, and her father, Richard Soltis of Kingsville.
Her surviving family also includes her brother, Daniel M. Sanford, and sister-in-law, Cali, of Ashtabula; half-brothers Adam Soltis and Sonya of North Kingsville and Scott Soltis and Amanda of Dover, Delaware; numerous nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law Tracy Mucci of Maryland.
Her nieces and nephews affectionately knew her as “Auntie,” reflecting the special relationship she shared with the younger members of her family.
Krissy was preceded in death by her father, Daniel T. Sanford; her parents-in-law, James and Patricia Mucci; and her maternal and paternal grandparents.
Celebration of Life
Family and friends will have an opportunity to gather and celebrate Krissy’s life during a Celebration of Life gathering on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at Corpus Christi Parish Center, Cabrini Hall, 736 Mill St., Conneaut, Ohio.
The gathering will take place from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Loved ones and members of the community are invited to come together to share memories, offer support to the family, and celebrate the remarkable life Krissy lived.
A Lasting Legacy
Kristina “Krissy” D. Mucci leaves behind far more than a distinguished career in education.
Her legacy can be found in the countless children she taught, the educators she influenced, the colleagues she supported, the friendships she cherished, and the family she loved so deeply.
She demonstrated throughout her life that making a difference does not always require grand gestures. Sometimes, it means noticing when a child needs help, encouraging someone who is struggling, welcoming a new friend, or simply making another person feel valued.
For a woman who devoted so much of her life to children and family, perhaps her greatest legacy is the countless people who became better, more confident, or simply happier because she cared about them.
Krissy will be deeply missed by her family, friends, former students, colleagues, and everyone fortunate enough to have crossed paths with her.
Her smile, kindness, adventurous spirit, generosity, and unwavering love for others will remain cherished memories for years to come.
