David M. Joseph, a beloved member of the Toledo, Ohio, community, passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at his home following a courageous 3½-year battle with cancer. He was 64.
Born on November 16, 1961, David was the youngest of five sons of George and Corrine (Darah) Joseph. He grew up surrounded by family, tradition, and the Joseph family business, values that remained central to his life.
David attended Maumee Valley Country Day School before graduating from Southview High School. He later attended the University of Toledo, where he was a beloved member and brother of the Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity.
David Joseph’s Life and Career
Following a longstanding family tradition, David began working at Joseph’s Supermarkets at a young age. His entrepreneurial spirit eventually led him to own several companies, although his primary professional commitment remained with the Joseph family businesses.
He spent much of his career at Joseph’s Beverage Center, where he became an important part of the day-to-day operation and a familiar face to customers, employees, family members, and friends.
David’s dedication was particularly evident during the store’s 2017 renovation, in which he played an instrumental role. Joseph’s Beverage Center was more than a workplace for David; it was a place where he built relationships and left a lasting impression on those around him.
When he was not at the beverage center, David worked alongside his brothers as a partner in the Joseph’s Real Estate Companies.
A Devoted Member of St. George Antiochian Cathedral
David was a lifelong member of St. George Antiochian Cathedral, where he served on the Church Board and participated on the Endowment Committee.
He was deeply involved in the church community and took great pride in supporting its annual summer festival. He also became well known for his efforts on behalf of the Ladies’ Benevolent Society dinner, proudly serving as the organization’s top ticket seller each year.
His persistence and personality made his annual October calls a familiar tradition, with friends and members of the community often knowing exactly why David was calling.
Remembering David Joseph
David was known for his larger-than-life personality, love of family, and appreciation for good food, wine, cigars, and bourbon.
A cigar aficionado and bourbon collector, he also enjoyed fine wines and had a deep appreciation for entertaining. Following in his parents’ footsteps, David hosted an annual wine dinner each November, bringing together family and friends for fine wine, premium cigars, and food from The Beirut Restaurant.
He particularly enjoyed cooking and entertaining in his backyard, where family and friends frequently gathered. Barbecued ribs were among his specialties, although a friendly family debate continued over whether David or his brother Brad made the better ribs.
David was also a passionate University of Toledo football and basketball fan and proudly supported Ohio State. Later in life, he enjoyed traveling to Marco Island, Florida, continuing a family tradition established by his parents.
David Joseph’s Family
Family was at the heart of David’s life.
He is survived by his four children, David M. (Jamie Spencer), Samantha (Nick Carmony), Valerie, and Joshua (Mychal Naylor).
He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Chloe, David III, and Leo. David was eagerly anticipating the arrival of his fourth grandchild later this fall.
He is also survived by his brothers G. Christopher (Regina), Bradley (Elizabeth), and Craig (Michelle), along with numerous nieces and nephews.
David was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Paul, who his family believes would have welcomed him with the same warm smile and embrace that so many associated with David.
Funeral and Visitation Arrangements
Visitation for David M. Joseph will be held on Friday, August 14, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at St. George Antiochian Cathedral, 3754 Woodley Road, Toledo, Ohio.
A Trisagion Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 p.m.
Visitation will continue on Saturday, August 15, from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral service at noon, also at St. George Antiochian Cathedral.
Interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial donations be made to St. George Antiochian Cathedral.
David M. Joseph leaves behind a legacy built around family, faith, business, friendship, and community. His laughter, generosity, traditions, and larger-than-life personality will remain cherished by the many people whose lives he touched.
