Jack Gray has died following complications from a fall he suffered approximately two weeks ago. He passed away just one day before his 88th birthday.
News of Jack’s passing was shared by a longtime friend who reflected on their decades-long friendship, which began in 1973 when Jack was a buyer at Kilpatrick’s in Omaha, Nebraska.
At the time, the friend was working for designer Halston and traveling across the country conducting trunk shows. Kilpatrick’s was one of the stores included on the tour, bringing Jack and the two together professionally before their relationship developed into a lasting friendship.
What began as a business connection eventually became a friendship that continued for more than five decades. Jack remained an important and cherished part of his friend’s life until his final days.
In a deeply emotional moment, Jack’s friend was able to speak to him by telephone while he was receiving hospice care. With Jack’s niece holding the phone to his ear, the friend was able to tell him, “I loved him.”
That final conversation provided a meaningful opportunity to express the affection and gratitude that had grown throughout their many years of friendship.
Jack’s passing has left those who knew him mourning the loss of a man who created lasting relationships and touched the lives of people around him.
