Martha Rivers Ingram, widely known as Nashville’s “First Lady of the Arts,” has passed away at the age of 90, leaving behind a remarkable legacy as a businesswoman, philanthropist, civic leader, and passionate supporter of the arts and education.
Ingram was a prominent figure in Nashville and beyond, where she dedicated much of her life to supporting cultural institutions, educational programs, and charitable causes.
Following the death of her husband in 1995, Martha Rivers Ingram became chairman of Ingram Industries, one of the largest privately held companies in the United States. Her leadership in the business world made her one of the wealthiest women in the world.
Beyond business, Ingram was particularly recognized for her commitment to the arts. Her philanthropy helped support major cultural institutions and educational organizations, strengthening Nashville’s reputation as a center for music and the arts.

Funeral and Memorial Services
Family and friends will have an opportunity to pay their respects during visitation scheduled for Thursday, August 13, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at St. George’s Episcopal Church.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 14, 2026, at St. George’s Episcopal Church.
A private graveside service for family members will take place following the funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to any of Martha’s favorite arts organizations or to Vanderbilt University.
