Nathaniel “Nate” Leander Johnson was called home to the Lord on August 10, 2026, at the age of 18. His passing has left his family, friends, and loved ones mourning the loss of a young man remembered for his kindness, wisdom, faith, and ability to connect with others.

Nate was born on February 14, 2008, in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, to Bob and Tara Johnson. When he was two years old, his family moved to Elk River, Minnesota, where he grew up alongside his older siblings, Zoey and Wes.

Remembering Nathaniel “Nate” Johnson

Nate was described as a wise and thoughtful young man who possessed a remarkable understanding of people, particularly those he loved most.

He was known for being kind and polite, with an ability to carry on conversations with almost anyone about virtually anything. His personality and genuine interest in others made him someone people felt comfortable around.

Nate loved to laugh and treasured spending time with his family and friends. His passionate nature also encouraged him to pursue new interests, experiences, endeavors, and adventures.

His faith was another important part of his life. Nate was deeply dedicated to his faith and carried those values with him as he prepared for the next chapter of his life.

A Young Man With a Bright Future

Nate graduated from Elk River High School in the spring of 2026.

Following graduation, he enrolled at the University of St. Thomas Opus College of Business, where he planned to study Finance and Economics.

He was excited about beginning college and starting a new chapter in his life. His family believed there was no doubt that Nate would have grown into a successful and caring family man.

His sudden passing has therefore left his loved ones grieving not only the life he lived but also the many years, experiences, and milestones they had expected to share with him.

Family Mourns Nathaniel Johnson

Nate is survived by his parents, Bob and Tara Johnson; sister, Zoey; brother, Wes; grandfather, Ron Walz; grandmother, Judi Johnson; uncle, Derek (Atsuko) Johnson; and girlfriend, Amena Khamdamova.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Bob Johnson Sr.; grandmother, Karen Walz; and uncle, Jodi Walz.

His family and friends will continue to hold onto the memories of his laughter, kindness, faith, conversations, and the time they shared with him.

Nathaniel Johnson Funeral and Visitation Arrangements

Visitation for Nathaniel Johnson will be held on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at Dare’s Funeral Home in Elk River from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

His funeral will take place on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Elk River at 11:00 a.m. A visitation will also be held at the church from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. before the service.

Following the Mass, committal will take place at St. Andrew Cemetery. A luncheon will then be provided in the church cafeteria following the committal.

Nathaniel “Nate” Johnson’s life may have been far too short, but the love he shared with his family and friends, his strong faith, and the memories he created will remain with those who knew him.

May Nathaniel Johnson rest peacefully, and may his family, friends, and loved ones find strength and comfort in the memories of the remarkable young man he was.
