ROCHESTER, Ill. — Robert Paul Long passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, August 9, 2026, with his beloved canine companion, Dozer, by his side. He was born on January 6, 1986, in Springfield, Illinois, to Rosemary Armes and the late Robert L. Long.
Robert’s passing leaves behind family and loved ones who will remember him for his warmth, interests, relationships, and the many memories he created throughout his life.
Remembering Robert Paul Long
Robert was preceded in death by his father, Robert L. Long; grandmothers Audrey Pratt and Carol Robertson; cousin Angela Eagan; and uncle Mike Long.
He is survived by his devoted mother, Rosemary, and his loving sisters, Alexis Armes and Audrey Moore. He also leaves behind his aunts, Paula Moore and Libby D. Foster, as well as cousins Jessica, Heather, and Ashley, whom he loved “to the moon and back.”
Robert’s nieces, Olivia Rose and Vivian Grace, were also among those he cherished. His beloved dog, Dozer, remained faithfully by his side during his final moments.
Education and Career
Robert was a graduate of District 186 schools and Parkland Community College.
Throughout his working life, he contributed his time and talents to County Materials, Precision Auto, and most recently Bunn Capital. His work reflected the dedication and effort he brought to the different places where he was employed.
Beyond his professional life, Robert found joy in spending time outdoors and pursuing the hobbies that meant the most to him.
Love of the Outdoors, Music and Animals
Robert enjoyed fishing and camping, taking every opportunity he could to spend time outdoors.
He also enjoyed weekend trips to garage sales and resale shops, where he took pleasure in searching for interesting treasures. At home, his garage provided a space where he could tinker with projects and work with his hands.
Music was another important part of Robert’s life. He particularly enjoyed 1980s rock and country music, adding another personal passion to the interests his family and friends will remember.
His love for animals was equally meaningful. In honor of Robert, his family has asked those wishing to make a memorial contribution to consider W.I.L.D. Canine or the Animal Protective League.
Funeral and Visitation Arrangements
Visitation for Robert Paul Long will be held on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at Wilson Park Funeral Home, 200 East Main Street, Rochester, Illinois 62563, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Private graveside services will follow at Walnut Hill Cemetery, where Robert will be laid to rest.
As family and friends gather to honor his memory, they will reflect on the interests and relationships that made Robert’s life meaningful.
Robert will be remembered for his love of the outdoors, fishing, camping, music, animals, tinkering, and especially the people and family members closest to him.
